By connecting to the real world of students’ lives, authentic learning enables students to become lifelong learners who contribute to society and the wider world as active and discerning citizens. Authentic learning is central to our work as Catholic educators because it promotes the continual growth and wellbeing of the whole person — spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically.
Consistency within and across classrooms is required in a busy and vibrant school. Corpus Christi College Maroubra follows key teaching and learning principles to support contemporary learners:
- We know every student as a learner and a person.
- We value growth towards mastery.
- We collaborate in the learning pit.
- We make learning visible.
- We have high expectations.
- We teach explicitly.
- We know our impact.
Students are asked to take an active part in their learning by being aware of the learning intentions of each and every lesson, the literacy focus for each and every lesson, and the assessment of success in each and every lesson. Our learners work towards targets to become reflective, resilient, relational and resourceful and thus equipped for our constantly changing world. The use of formative checkpoints supported by critical feedback promotes self-regulation and learning self-efficacy. The Maroubra graduate will learn to take their place having developed themselves as community-minded, globally aware custodians of our planet.
